Tenacious D ist eine komödiantische Rock-Band, bestehend aus Kyle Gass und Jack Black, die beide sowohl Musiker als auch Schauspieler sind. Kyle Gass und Jack Black begannen als Bühnen-Act, worauf sie in einer Serie von Kurz-Comedyfilmen bei HBO auftraten. Tenacious D veröffentlichten ihr erstes Album im Jahr 2001. Bei Live-Auftritten spielen sie nur mit akustischen Gitarren. Für ihr Album nahmen sie sich den Schlagzeuger und Gitarristen Dave Grohl von den Foo Fighters, den Keyboarder Page McConnell, den Gitarristen Warren Fitzgerald und den Bassisten Steve McDonald zur Hilfe.
