The Swell Season is the first album from The Frames' frontman Glen Hansard that the singer has released independently of his band. The album is a collaboration with Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. The project came about after Glen and Markéta were approached by the Czech film director Jan Hrebejk while touring in the Czech Republic, and were asked by him to record songs for his upcoming film Beauty in Trouble. After this Glen & Markéta starred together in the film Once, directed by former The Frames bassplayer John Carney. This film is doing very well in the States.

Nobody has had it right so far. And while none can be perfect, this is MUCH
more accurate than any of the others out there. Enjoy!

[Intro] (looks like Glen uses his thumb to play the low F)
 e|-----------0---------------1---0-----------0--------------------------------|

 e|-----------0---------------1---0-----------0--------------------------------|

Words fall through me, (and) always fool me, and I can't react

[Verse 2 (this part is an approximation but is close; piano and vocals kind of
drown out the guitar, so just play some similar arpeggio based on the chords]

      Am G F G Am strum F...crescendo into Chorus

And games that never a-mount to more than they're meant Will play themselves out

[Chorus] (relatively metered strums [8th notes] with up-strums [16th notes]
           just before each chord transition)

   C F Am F
Take this sinking boat and point it home, we've still got time

   C F Am F
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice, you'll make it now

 [Verse 1]
   C F C F
Falling slowly, eyes that know me, and I can't go back
   C F C F
Moods that take me and erase me, and I'm painted black

 [Verse 2]
   Am G F G Am G F
You have suffered e-nough and warred with your-self, it's time that you won

 [Chorus]

   C F Am F
Take this sinking boat and point it home, we've still got time

   C F Am F
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice, you've made it now

   C F Am F
Falling slowly sing your melo-dy, I'll sing a-long

[Outtro] (lots of strums on F, while humming, then back to the intro once)
