+ Info...

John Leslie "Wes" Montgomery was an American guitarist. He was born March 6, 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana, as part of a musical family including his brothers Monk (string bass, electric bass) and Buddy (vibraphone, piano). He died of a heart attack on June 15, 1968. Montgomery is best known for his unconventional technique on the guitar, which uses octaves and block chords to great extent in his solos, and by plucking the string with his right thumb in place of a pick.

This is the beginning of 'days of wine and roses' before wes starts his =
solo.

The above is wes playing the song with some

additions to chords (such as added sixths or dimished fifths).

Then tune the progresses to the solos where wes plays

over the above chord structure which is being played by an organ and =
bass.

Some of the above positions are difficult and take time to learn

but stick with it and the rewards will come!

Try to dampen open strings to prevent the playing of

extraneous notes.

When wes plays it is important to remember that

he uses his thumb instead of a pick which gives a mellower sound.

It is a good idea to listen to the tune before attempting

it to get the right rhythm and 'feel'.
