A highly influential band, Hawkwind are known for heavy experimentation, innovation and as some of the early pioneers of electronica. Starting out in the late 60's as a psychedelic rock / space rock band, Hawkwind went on to become one of the earliest and hardest heavy metal bands of the 70's. The band maintained a successful following through the period of punk and new wave, cited by Joy Division bassist Peter Hook as an early influence.
